Planning to Study Abroad?
The Study Abroad Office is now accepting applications for spring and summer 2022

The Study Abroad Office offers online scheduling for remote advising meetings. Students can fill out a brief survey on the Study Abroad website to request an appointment. Based on their interests, they will be matched with a Study Abroad advisor and invited through BoilerConnect to schedule a phone or video call.   Click Here
 
Science Data Management Student Job Opening

The College of Science Office of Data Management is looking to hire for the position of Data Assistant to begin Fall 2021 and continue thru Academic Year 2021-22 with the possibility to continue through AY 2022-23.  This posting represents two open positions.  These positions are hybrid with at least five hours in office between the hours of 8 AM and 5 PM Monday through Friday with an additional two to five hours of remote work (for a total of 7-10 hours per week).

These positions will be part of a team of data assistants, working to support the Strategic Data Manager by creating, updating, and modifying administrative reports and dashboards; validating records and reports; collecting and formatting data; and documenting reporting and analysis processes. 

 
We are looking for someone who meets the following criteria:
  • Solid logical reasoning and analytical skills
  • Detail-oriented, meticulous, and accurate
  • Ability to maintain security of sensitive data
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite, especially in Excel

 Desired but not required criteria:
  • Experience in R and R Studio for data cleaning and transformation with a desire to work with a current data assistant to further their skills
  • Familiar with Purdue’s undergraduate science programs
  • Working knowledge of Tableau or experience in data visualization or a desire to learn
  • Preference will be given to candidates with availability to continue into academic year 2022-23.

 This is a part-time position working as needed 7 to 10 hours per week during the academic year (Summer 2022 hours available but not required).  Starting salary is $10 per hour.

The Women In Science Program (WISP) is excited to welcome our cohort of 200 upper-class and first year students who identify as women, non-binary and male advocates this year! Together, we will learn, teach, grow, network, and have a blast!

For over twenty years, WISP has been striving to offer support and a sense of belonging while addressing issues of isolation in the male dominated field of STEM.  Additionally, WISP promotes the development of personal and professional identities, facilitates networking and connections and aid in persistence towards earning an undergraduate degree in science from Purdue University.

The WISP Learning Community of 100 first year students:
  • Builds a supportive community of students interested in science, allowing for the formation of natural study groups, and eliminating the isolation first-year female students may face.
  • partners each first-year student with an upper-class mentor enrolled in the College of Science.
  • holds monthly programs which address topics of interest in science and life skills and allow for networking among students, staff, faculty and invited guests from academia, alumnae, and industry.
  • sponsors a tutoring program, together with the College of Engineering, for all students enrolled in first year courses, where Honors science tutors serve as models of persistence.

ITSEW 2021
The National Institute of Statistical Sciences is proud to sponsor the INTERNATIONAL TOTAL SURVEY ERROR WORKSHOP (ITSEW) 2021, themed Total Survey Error in the Age of COVID-19.  After a hiatus in 2020, ITSEW returns this year as a series of three virtual weekly seminars with the goal to promote discussion of questions of research, methodology and practice relating to Total Survey Error (TSE) and Total Survey Quality.  Each session will be comprised of relatively short presentations and catalyzing discussion by a designated discussant, followed by floor discussion among all participants.
